Vibrating Fork Level Sensors or tuning fork level switches are used widely in industries for accurate point level indication of liquids and bulk solids. These sensors are similar to a vibrating tuning fork and do not require maintenance to calibrate the measurements.
The piezoelectric element is used to excite the attached tuning fork to a frequency corresponding to the natural frequency of the tuning fork. When the fork touches the medium, it experiences a change in the vibration frequency regardless of whether it is liquid or solid. This causes the apparatus to switch, where the electronics within the sensor can detect whether material is present.
Using vibrating fork-level sensors increases the reliability of the process control system and its safety and efficiency, as it measures point levels in different industrial environments.
